What we aim for
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA. In practice that means:
- Text that is readable in sunlight on a low-cost screen, with enough contrast against its background.
- Buttons and links big enough to tap, at least 44 pixels on a phone.
- Everything reachable with a keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a "Skip to content" link at the top of each page.
- Pages that say what language they are in, with one main heading and headings in order, so a screen reader can move through them.
- Movement kept to a minimum, and switched off if your phone or computer is set to reduce motion.
What we tested, and how
We ran automated checks with axe-core 4.10.2, against its WCAG 2.0, 2.1 and 2.2 level A and AA rules, in a Chromium browser. We checked these pages:
- on 15 October 2026: the home page, the privacy policy and the terms of use; the partner pages; the free tools and the career aptitude test; sign in, student sign in and creating an account
- on 16 October 2026: the eight job-hunting guides and the guides page, this page, the About page and the Contact page
We also worked out the contrast of every text colour the site uses against the backgrounds it sits on. The lowest pair is 5 to 1, above the 4.5 to 1 that AA asks for.
What we found
- Fixed the same day: on the privacy policy, the table of how long information is kept could scroll sideways but could not be reached with a keyboard. It now can.
- The automated checks flagged the price panel on the home page for low contrast. It was being read in the middle of its fade-in. Once shown, it is white on olive, with a contrast of 7.3 to 1.
- No other problems were reported on the pages listed above.
What we have not tested yet
Automated checks find only some kinds of problem, so we are not claiming more than they show. These have not been tested yet:
- Using the site from start to finish with a screen reader, such as TalkBack on Android or NVDA on Windows.
- Testing with people who have disabilities.
- The documents the Career Office produces for you, once downloaded.
- The Premium screens that need an account, and the staff side of the service.
We will update this page as each of these is done, and change the date at the top.
Tell us about a problem
If something on the site is hard to use with the way you browse, we want to know. Send us a message, with no account needed, and say which page and what went wrong. We will treat it as a fault to fix, not a request.
