About the Career Office

A careers service for South African job seekers and students. We help you get your CV, your applications and your interviews ready, built from what you tell us.

Last updated 17 October 2026

Who we are

The Career Office belongs to Skills Academy, a South African distance-learning college, and is also used by its sister colleges, Matric College and Bellview Institute of Distance Learning. A team in South Africa runs it. We started building it in September 2026, for people looking for a first job or a better one.

It is a careers service, not a recruitment agency. You don't have to be a student at one of the colleges to use the free tools. We don't hire anyone, we don't sell your information, and we don't send your details to employers. Our job is to help you apply properly.

Why it exists

Many people looking for work in South Africa have no CV at all, or one that a hiring system can't read. Help with a CV, a cover letter or an interview often costs money, sits behind an office's opening hours, or assumes you already know how job hunting works.

The Career Office puts that help on your phone, in plain English, and keeps the basics free.

How your documents are made

  • Nothing is invented. Every line in your CV or letter comes from something you told us. If something important is missing, we ask you rather than fill the gap.
  • Checked before you get it. Parts of the drafting are done with the help of an AI service, and every draft is checked against what you gave us. Anything that can't be traced back to you is taken out.
  • A person answers your questions. When you ask an advisor, a member of the Career Office team reads it and writes back, usually within 24 hours.
  • Your documents are yours. Use them however you like.

What we keep, and for how long, is in the privacy policy.

What is free, and what is Premium

The career aptitude test, the CV and cover-letter templates, and 15 phone and follow-up scripts are free to anyone, with no sign-in.

Career Office Premium adds the rest: a CV built with you, a cover letter for a specific advert, interview preparation, a case for a promotion, questions to an advisor, the 20-module programme and more. It is one payment of R1,250 covering 12 months, with no subscription, and free for students enrolled at our partner colleges: Skills Academy, Matric College and Bellview Institute of Distance Learning. See what it costs.

What we won't do

  • We won't promise you a job. Whether you are invited to an interview or offered a job is up to the employer.
  • We won't put anything on your CV that you didn't tell us.
  • We won't sign you up to a subscription.

Getting in touch

Anyone can send us a message, with no account needed. If you have Premium, you can also use Ask an advisor once signed in. For how we handle your information, read the privacy policy, and for what we each agree to, the terms of use. How accessible this site is, and what we know still needs work, is in the accessibility statement.
